Current studies indicate that remnants of SARS-COV2 virus are present in wastewater, suggesting wastewater as a marker for:

• EARLY DETECTION WILL ANTICIPATE OUTBREAKS.

• EARLY DETECTION PROVIDES AMPLE TIME FOR AN OUTBREAK WARNING AND PROCEDURE PLAN TO BE PUT INTO ACTION.

The NYC-CTIS team conducts testing of wastewater by Real Time Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) for SARS-COV2, the virus responsible for COVID-19.

Early Warning Wastewater Surveillance Program

Our certified, water treatment consultants will conduct wastewater sampling procedures in accordance to best practices. Our team will conduct all labor involved for wastewater sample pickups. After wastewater sampling is complete, we will package all samples into a cooler and send them to a NY State Certified Laboratory via FEDEX. Test results will be available for review within 5-7 days. Expedited results are available within 3 days, additional charges apply.

IMPORTANT: All wastewater samples will be analyzed with Real time, Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) for SARS-CoV-2. The qPCR test detects RNA, the genetic signature of SARS-CoV-2, in wastewater. This is done by quantifying viral RNA using Real Time (RT) reverse transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR). The cycle threshold (CT) values obtained will be used to quantify the copies of RNA of two variants of SARS-CoV-2 (SARS- CoV-2 N1 and SARS-CoV-2 N2) in wastewater samples. The results are reported as copies of viral RNA/mL.
